Reverend LaJoyce Chatwell Lawton, Ed.D.

Ordained in 2004, Rev. LaJoyce Lawton has been a devoted Methodist minister serving in churches across Kerrville and San Antonio. Beyond her congregational service, she shares her wisdom at Christian conferences and retreats, embodying a lifelong learner by continuously pursuing seminary courses and theological workshops. Her commitment to education is underscored by her Doctor of Education degree from the University of Oklahoma in Adult and Higher Education and her influence extends to faith-based education, a passion she holds dear. She is happily married to Billy Lawton, Program Leader (AGNR) at Cooperative Extension Program, Prairie View A&M University, and together they have a daughter, Kimberly, and a grandson, Ke'Mar, residing in Mansfield, Texas.

It’s not unusual to find Reverend Dr. Lawton participating in various facets of ministry, from leading liturgy during worship services and offering prayers to teaching, preaching, administering sacraments, or completing ministry projects in various locations. Along with preaching the baccalaureate service at Piney Woods School (MS) and serving as commencement speaker at Boley School (OK), she has orchestrated a citywide Juneteenth worship event in San Antonio (TX) and played a pivotal role in developing educational initiatives in Southern Africa which were then shared in faith-based schools in Swaziland and Lesotho. Additionally, she has supervised an Oblate School of Theology Intern and continues to train clergy and lay ministers.

Recognized as an "Outstanding Woman in Action" (Religion Award - 2008) by LaPrensa Foundation, Inc., and a recipient of a ministry grant for clergy training in Ghana, Dr. Lawton's influence is widely acknowledged. Additionally, her role as a Trade Adjustment Assistance for Farmers (TAA) consultant reflects her commitment to empowering Gulf Coast shrimpers through strategic business planning.
